COVID-19 Protocol for Avalon Memory Care

Avalon Memory Care is committed to keeping our residents, employees and community safe during this time. In an effort to keep all parties safe, we will be strictly following all CDC, state and local prevention protocols. Our first priority is the health and well-being of our residents and everyone that makes Avalon Memory Care a great place to be.

Here are the protocols we will be implementing to ensure that your loved one is cared for:

To Protect Everyone

  • Increased hand washing, social distancing and the use of protective face coverings
  • Frequent sanitization of high-touch surfaces
  • Daily wellness screenings of our residents and employees
  • Employees are required to stay home when sick

For Our Residents

  • Staffing that is consistent in order to maintain a routine for residents
  • Structured activities to keep residents engaged (performed in resident’s room or social distanced)
  • Maintain ways for residents to be active
  • Residents are tested weekly unless there is an outbreak. In that case, residents are tested twice a week

Guests

  • Guests are able to video chat with residents
  • Guests are allowed an in-person visit after being screened for symptoms
  • HHSC also requires that all visitors remain 6 feet away from all other residents and staff members during their visit.
  • Visits no longer have to be scheduled in advance, but they must be scheduled to allow for time to clean and disinfect between visits.

Vaccination Clinics

  • We offer every resident and staff member an opportunity to get vaccinated.

In the instance of a positive case

  • The county health department and state are notified immediately
  • All staff and residents are retested immediately
  • Families will be notified
  • Infection control procedures will be implemented based on Texas Health and Human Services Commission, CDC and county recommendations

We understand that implementing prevention strategies may be difficult because many of our residents rely on routine and familiarity. Daily life has been transformed for everyone and we are working diligently to stop and mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Visitation Policy

All visitors must wear masks inside the community at all times. Because we care for such a vulnerable population, Avalon Memory Care is subject to additional safety restrictions on top of the rules regular businesses must follow.

All visitors must perform hand hygiene before and after visit.

Residents can choose whether they want visitors to remain 6 feet away and whether a visitor may touch them. Visitors must stay at least six feet away from residents (other than your own) and staff members at all times.

Avalon will utilize our BinaxNOW Rapid Tests to test unvaccinated visitors who have not had a negative COVID-19 test within the past 14 days.

  • If you are unvaccinated but have been tested somewhere else within 14 days of your visit, please bring documentation of your negative test results. We would prefer a paper copy, but a cell phone picture is sufficient.
  • If you have been vaccinated please be prepared to show documentation of this when you come to visit. We would prefer a paper copy, but a cell phone picture is sufficient.

All visitors must be screened for the following signs or symptoms prior to being allowed to visit. Visitors who meet any of the following screening criteria must leave the assisted living facility campus and reschedule the visit:

  • A fever defined as a temperature of 100.4 Fahrenheit and above, or signs or symptoms of a respiratory infection, such as cough, shortness of breath, or sore throat;
  • signs or symptoms of COVID-19, including chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea;
  • additional signs and symptoms as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Symptoms of Coronavirus at cdc.gov;
  • contact in the last 14 days with someone who has a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19, is under investigation for COVID-19, or is ill with a respiratory illness; or
  • international travel within the last 14 days.

Beginning in January 2021, Avalon has made great efforts to ensure our residents and staff are vaccinated against COVID-19 with continued vaccination clinics. Click here to find an updated visitation policy.
