Our History

A Pioneer in Memory Care Homes in Texas and Missouri

Our Story

Avalon Memory Care was founded in 1995 by Richard Seib and Dr. Dan Griffin. Richard was involved in a ministry that reached out to the elderly population at their local church. As he was visiting nursing homes he recognized how ill equipped these facilities were to take care of patients experiencing declining dementia and Alzheimer’s. Instead of focusing on just the medical care, Richard wanted to see a more palliative and home-styled approach that focused on the community members’ overall well-being and quality of life. Soon Avalon Memory Care was established to meet these needs and to provide a new level of compassionate care. We are considered to be one of the first and best memory care homes in Texas.

Today the company has grown to over 30 locations, reaching all over the state of Texas and one location in Missouri. Currently Richard’s sons are in charge of the business and are committed to serving this community in the best way possible. Their family is dedicated to fulfilling their father’s mission of meeting the ever-growing need for individualized and compassionate care for families with a loved one challenged with memory related conditions.

The first Avalon residential memory care home was located in Plano, Texas in a converted home in a single family neighborhood. As Avalon grew, they started to convert more and more homes into residential memory care centers throughout the Dallas, and Houston metropolitan areas. This was very different from hospital units or wards, and has become the preferred approach to memory care homes.

Richard was most passionate about his family. He married Ruth Anne Seib in 1963 and together they raised four sons in Dallas. He also delighted in having 11 grandchildren, spending time each summer to take his entire family on vacation together. Friends will remember him as adventurous, gregarious, generous and truly larger than life. Richard was proud to have each of his sons work alongside him and continue to grow his many business ventures. Richard’s sons are in charge of the business and are committed to serving this community in the best way possible to continue his legacy. They are dedicated to fulfilling their father’s mission of meeting the ever-growing need for individualized and compassionate care for families with a loved one experiencing memory related conditions.
